Hotel Heron, a collaborative project between Aparium Hotel Group, May Riegler Companies and Potomac Investment Properties, is set to open in early 2024 in Old Town Alexandria, Va. The hotel will be a conversion of the historic George Mason Hotel building, minutes away from Washington D.C.

Built in 1926 and operated as the George Mason Hotel for 45 years, the building is an example of Colonial Revival architecture. Washington, D.C.-based architect Antonovich Associates and design firm Streetsense will combine the historic property with an adjacent new structure.

Hotel Heron will have 134 guestrooms, several food and beverage options, a fitness center and meeting spaces designed for various social activities. The food options will include a restaurant focusing on cuisine from the Chesapeake Bay region and a bar area serving coffee, teas and cocktails. Other amenities will include a separate bar and lounge and a seasonal rooftop cocktail bar.

Located in the city’s Old Town, a nationally designated historic district, the hotel is close to the King Street Mile’s shopping, dining, art and historic sites. The hotel is also a short drive from Washington, D.C.
